Setting a budget for a family holiday is not the world's easiest task.. Where value is more important to you than luxury, 3* accomodation might seem a good option, but some of it is so poor you might as well have stayed at home.
On the other hand there are some holiday options that are ultra luxurous yet don't even rate a star in the official guides. I once stayed at a BandB near Urra Moor on Yorkshire where, alongside a fantastic room, they offered us a free taxi ride each night to the village and free guided wildlife walks up on the moors during the day.
